FAQs

What is a hand-painted needlepoint canvas?

A hand-painted canvas is needlepoint mesh with the design painted on by hand, stitch by stitch. You stitch right over the painted colors, so there's no chart to count. Because each one is painted by hand, no two are exactly alike, and those small variations are part of the charm.

What mesh count are your canvases?

Our canvases are painted on 13 mesh and 18 mesh canvas. The mesh count is listed on each product page.

Are threads or fibers included?

Canvases are sold on their own. Threads aren’t included, but we’re always happy to suggest colors.

Do your canvases come with stitch guides?

Not at this time. Our canvases are painted to be stitched in basketweave or tent stitch, and they’re a lovely blank slate for your own decorative stitches.

How long until my order ships?

Ready-to-ship canvases go out within [CONFIRM: processing time] business days. You'll get an email with tracking once your order is on its way. See Returns / Shipping page for details.

Do you offer finishing?

[CONFIRM: finishing] We don't offer finishing right now. When your piece is done, a local needlepoint shop or professional finisher can turn it into a pillow, ornament, belt, or whatever you have in mind.

Do you take custom orders?

Not at the moment. Our small family studio is focused on our current collection. If you have something special in mind, reach out at hello@summerheirloom.com or on Instagram @summerheirloom (https://instagram.com/summerheirloom), and we'll let you know if that changes.

How should I care for my canvas?

Store it flat or loosely rolled with the painted side facing out. Don't fold it. Keep it dry and out of direct sunlight, and wash your hands before stitching. We recommend stitching on stretcher bars to help your canvas keep its shape. Treat it well, and it's made to be kept.
